The claim

AI builds your store, writes ads and picks winning products — just collect profits..

Still pushed hard by 'AI store' gurus; news coverage centres on tariffs and FTC enforcement.

How we checked

This is an evidence check, not a hands-on test. We reviewed platform rules and policies, published earnings data, regulator warnings and reporting: 4 sources, listed below.

Start-up cost
£50–£500+/month (Shopify plan, apps, test ad spend £10–£30/day)

What the evidence shows

AI speeds up the store-building, but the hard and costly parts are still paid ads, thin margins, returns and customer service. The end of the US de minimis duty-free rule in August 2025 badly hurt low-cost China-to-US dropshipping. The FTC has repeatedly shut down 'AI-powered store' schemes that took millions in fees for storefronts that rarely earned, so done-for-you AI stores are a red flag.

Realistic earnings: Most beginners lose money on ad testing; often a net loss of £200–£1,000 in the first months. A small minority reach steady profit.

Limitations

Earnings ranges are typical outcomes for a beginner, drawn from the sources; some people do far better or worse. Platform rules change often, so check the latest policy before you start.
