The claim

Design logos and brand kits with AI and sell them to small businesses.

A long-running AI side-hustle pitch; legal coverage of the US Copyright Office's January 2025 report keeps AI logo ownership in the news.

What the evidence shows

Paid design work still exists, but pure AI-generated logos carry a legal weakness and cheap rates. The US Copyright Office concluded in January 2025 that prompts alone do not give enough control for copyright and that wholly AI-generated material is not protected, which matters for a logo a client needs to own. Upwork says logo designers on its platform typically charge $15 to $30 an hour, with a median of $25. Research found image-creation job posts fell 17% after image AI arrived, though Bloomberry's analysis of Upwork listings to February 2024 found graphic design jobs grew 8%, with hourly pay rising slightly.

Realistic earnings: Designers who add real human design work can still sell logos, but AI output alone is a weak product for clients who need to own and protect their brand. Typical rates on Upwork are modest.

Limitations

Earnings ranges are typical outcomes for a beginner, drawn from the sources; some people do far better or worse. Platform rules change often, so check the latest policy before you start.
