The claim

Sell AI pet portraits on Etsy and Instagram for easy profit.

Pet-to-person and Pixar-style pet image trends went viral in spring 2025 and were covered by Tom's Guide and Creative Bloq; Etsy's AI policy remains a live seller complaint.

What the evidence shows

The main obstacle is that buyers can now make AI pet images themselves for free: Tom's Guide showed in April 2025 that the viral pet-to-person trend works on ChatGPT's free version, following an earlier viral Pixar-style pet portrait trend. Etsy allows AI-assisted art but requires sellers to disclose AI use in the listing, and sellers have publicly complained that AI products are crowding an already saturated marketplace. Etsy says buyers who receive an item that does not match the listing can open a case for a full refund under Etsy's purchase protection.

Realistic earnings: None of the sources give earnings figures for AI pet portrait sellers. What they show is that the core product is something customers can now make themselves at no cost, so any sales depend on adding something they cannot, such as printing, framing or hand finishing.

Limitations

Earnings ranges are typical outcomes for a beginner, drawn from the sources; some people do far better or worse. Platform rules change often, so check the latest policy before you start.
